Invasion! Operation Sealion, 1940

This book is a worthwhile addition to your library if you're interested in Operation Sealion. It covers the tactics, strategies and orders of battle, for both sides, should the invasion have taken place. The first part of the book covers the historical background through to the start of September, and the latter part crosses over into alternate history territory: what if the invasion had taken place.

The best part of this book is the first part which contains a tremendous amount of detail, including many pages of the actual orders issued to individual units. Of course, some people who are looking for a fast moving read may find this level of detail unnecessary for them, but others will revel in this information.

In my opinion, the weaker part of the book, is the second, speculative part. There are some interesting ideas, but there are also quite a number of ideas that don't seem credible to me. Of course, any Sealion scenario is entirely speculative, so I'm willing to concede that it's possible that I'm wrong and the author is right - you'll have to read the book yourself and make your own mind up.

Over all, I'd say that if you're interested in Sealion then it's a book worth buying - but, I expect you'll probably want some other books on the subject in as well.
